  • The Bracco Italiano is a very ancient breed and appears in paintings and texts since the 4th and 5th centuries BC.
  • They were originally developed by the Italian hunters to drive game into nets, however, with the invention of the gun, the role of the Bracco Italiano developed to that of the modern day hunt, point and retrieve breeds.
  • Country of origin is Italy.
  • The breed was bred by the Gonzaga and Medici families; the subjects born in those kennels were sought out by nobles and royal families.
  • When hunting game, the Bracco Italiano covers ground in an elongated flowing trot while holding his nose up to the wind scenting for game. The Italians refer to the perfect stance as appearing as though they were "being pulled along by the nose."
